Oakie appeared in over 100 movies and television programs over the course of a stellar career that spanned from the early 1920’s to the mid-1960’s. But he is probably most remembered for his portrayal of Benzino Napaloni, the boisterous dictator of Bacteria, in Charlie Chaplin’s The Great Dictator (1940), for which he received an Oscar nomination in the Best Supporting Actor Award category.
