The 8,000 square foot rink by the beach offers residents and visitors a little taste of winter without the bite.

Backed by a live band, Tim Piper channels John Lennon in the smash hit, multimedia rock ‘n roll tribute that celebrates Lennon’s life and music. Written and directed by Steve Altman, Just Imagine intertwines John Lennon’s songs with the stories behind them to create a unique and electrifying multimedia concert experience.

Featuring author Susan Orlean, animal trainers Sarah Clifford and Omar von Muller and a screening of “Clash of the Wolves” (1925) starring Rin Tin Tin, with live musical accompaniment by Michael Mortilla. Tickets: $5

The world famous Santa Monica Pier and Honolua Surf Co. will kick off the summer of 2012 with the 3rd Annual Santa Monica Pier Paddleboard Race and Ocean Festival, featuring paddleboard races, an ocean swim, dory competitions, hula dance groups, live music and a surfing, lifeguard and paddleboard history exhibition.

The event will take place in the historic Lasky-DeMille Barn and will cap off this season of the Evening @ the Barn series. Oakie appeared in over 100 movies and television programs over the course of a stellar career that spanned from the early 1920’s to the mid-1960’s. But he is probably most remembered for his portrayal of Benzino Napaloni, the boisterous dictator of Bacteria, in Charlie Chaplin’s The Great Dictator (1940), for which he received an Oscar nomination in the Best Supporting Actor Award category.

Children and their families are invited to the Summer Reading Club Kickoff Party which features a performance by Jumbo Shrimp Circus whose feats of juggling, magic, and zany antics are sure to induce giggles.
